International Conference: Recent Advances in International Trade and Finance 2017
As part of the Chu Hai College of Higher Education 70th Anniversary celebration programme, the Research Center for International Trade and Business held the Second Conference on International Trade and Business on 14-15 December 2017, with co-organizers the International Economics and Finance Society, Hong Kong, and the Asia Development Bank Institute, Tokyo, Japan. Renowned speakers from all over the world, including Australia, Canada, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Switzerland and the United States, as well as those from Greater China (Mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong) presented their research results in the Conference.
The Conference started off with a welcome speech delivered by the President of the College, Professor C.N. Chang. It was followed by the first keynote speaker, Professor Peter H. Egger, Professor of Applied Economics at KOF Swiss Economic Institute and the Editor of Review of International Economics, who gave a talk on “The Economic Geography of Innovation”. A series of presentations were delivered, before the second keynote speaker, Dr. Mahvash S. Qureshi, Deputy Division Chief in the International Monetary Fund (IMF)'s Research Department gave a talk on “A Tie That Binds: Revisiting the Trilemma in Emerging Market Economies”. Professor Eden S.H. Yu, Vice President of the College and Director of the Center, concluded the Conference with an enthusiastic participation of over 100 local and overseas academics.
The Research Centre for International Trade and Business was funded by the Institutional Development Scheme (IDS) through the Research Grant Council (RGC). The Center aims to promote a research culture and to engage in projects relating to various fields of international trade and business independently or in collaboration with researchers and academic scholars overseas. The Conference has successfully helped build up collaboration between the academic staff of Chu Hai College and academic scholars overseas through providing the opportunity for Chu Hai academic staff to present their own research work in the Conference.
