01-29,2026

Students from the Department of Architecture Lu Qionghui and Wu Si, under the supervision of Dr. Chen Huiwei, Associate Professor, received the Merit Award at the 14th China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (Guangdong–Guangzhou Division) & the 2025 Guangzhou Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition – Marine Technology and Equipment Youth Track, for their research project “Asset-Based Coastal Community Transformation: The Case of Sam Shing Hui, Hong Kong, and Prospects for Marine Technology Applications.” The achievement highlights the College’s strengths in practice-oriented and interdisciplinary education.

The award-winning project adopts Sam Shing, Hong Kong, as a case study and applies the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) framework to examine how coastal communities can integrate local social assets, spatial planning strategies, and marine technology applications during the transformation process. The study emphasizes community-based resources, social responsiveness, and sustainable development pathways.

The competition attracted 78 postgraduate teams from the Greater Bay Area, with 18 teams receiving the Merit Award. The success of students reflects their strong research competence, social awareness, and interdisciplinary integration skills.

The award not only recognizes the students’ academic and practical achievements, but also demonstrates the effectiveness of the MAUDP programme in nurturing professionals with social responsibility, field-based research skills, and interdisciplinary perspectives. The College will continue to encourage participation in high-level academic and innovation platforms, strengthening collaboration within the Greater Bay Area.
