09-01,2026

In August 2026, ten undergraduate students from Hong Kong Chu Hai College (HKCHC) have successfully completed the Summer School Programme at Hertford College, University of Oxford, becoming the first cohort of HKCHC students to participate in the programme.

The three-week Advanced English and British Culture Programme provided students with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the academic environment of the University of Oxford and experience the learning atmosphere of one of the world's leading universities. The programme offered a rich and diverse range of learning activities, including English language and British culture classes, discussions and presentations, study visits, as well as multicultural and social activities organised by Hertford College. Through a combination of classroom learning and experiential activities, students were able to achieve both academic and personal development.

By participating in classes and cultural activities, students not only gained a deeper understanding of British history, traditions, and society, but also enhanced their critical thinking, independent learning, and intercultural communication skills. Interacting with local students and participants from different countries and cultural backgrounds enabled them to appreciate diverse perspectives and cultures, broaden their international outlook, and strengthen their confidence in communicating in English within an international environment.

The students spoke highly of their learning experience. In particular, they appreciated the stimulating academic atmosphere at Oxford, the engaging and interactive teaching approaches adopted by the instructors, and the wide range of cultural exchange opportunities offered throughout the programme. Many participants remarked that the programme encouraged them to step outside their comfort zones, engage actively with students from around the world, and develop stronger problem-solving skills and adaptability in unfamiliar environments.

Building on the success of the first cohort, HKCHC will continue to explore international learning opportunities and provide students with valuable overseas study and cultural exchange experiences.
