On 14 October 2026, Hong Kong Chu Hai College and the HKU Arts Technology Lab jointly hosted the cross-campus seminar “The Arts Creation in the AI Age: Redefining Process, Ethics, and Creativity in Film, Games, and Visual Arts”.
The seminar brought together experts and scholars in film production design, game design, AI aesthetics, and educational technology to explore four key dimensions: creative workflows, ethical considerations, authorship, and human-centred AI.
Four distinguished speakers shared their insights. Dr. Ka-lung Ng, Professional Practitioner at The University of Hong Kong and Coordinator of the HKU Arts Technology Lab, discussed AI game production and spatial imagination. Veteran production designer Mr. Ying-wah Cheung reflected on three decades of design experience and examined what remains uniquely human in visual storytelling. Dr. Lung-kit Lam, Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Chu Hai College, explored authorship and ideology in AI-generated art. Professor Hayal Köksal from Istanbul Kent University, Türkiye, discussed how human-centred education and collaborative intelligence can foster creativity, dignity, and a sustainable future in the AI era.
A highlight of the seminar was the presentation of student research projects from the HKU Arts Technology Lab. Under the supervision of Dr. Ng, selected students showcased innovative works in AI-assisted visual arts, generative sound design, interactive media, and game production, followed by professional feedback from experienced practitioners.
Moving beyond the question of “How do we use AI?”, the seminar explored “How can we realise human value in the age of AI?”, offering fresh perspectives on creative practice, professional judgement, and ethical responsibility.
