Q1: Who are local students?

A1: According to the Education Bureau (EDB), LOCAL STUDENTS, for the purpose of admission to post-secondary programmes, are defined as follows:
The student is a holder of:
LS1 HKID Card (Permanent)
LS2 Documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR showing right to land / right of abode in Hong Kong
LS3 One-way Permit for entry to Hong Kong
LS4 Full-time employment visa / work permit
LS5 Dependant visa / entry permit (for students who were below 18 years old) Note:Students holding dependant visa / entry permit who were below 18 years old when they were issued with such visa / entry permit by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR.
LS6 Visa / Entry permit for Quality Migrant Admission Scheme
LS7 Visa / Entry permit for Capital Investment Entrant Scheme
LS8 Visa / Entry permit for Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents
LS9 Visa label for unconditional stay

Q2: Which local students are eligible for tuition fee subsidies?

A2:Category I (Cat. I) refers to subsidised fees. Persons holding the following documents are eligible for government-subsidised student places in relation to sub-degree, undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes:
Cat. I-1: Hong Kong permanent identity card
Cat. I-2: Documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR showing the right to land/right of abode in Hong Kong
Cat. I-3: Hong Kong Identity Card + One-way Permit for entry to Hong Kong
Cat. I-5: Hong Kong Identity Card + Dependant visa/entry permit + Fulfilment of residency requirement : holders who were below 18 years old when first issued with such visa/entry permit by the ImmD, provided that they have resided in Hong Kong for two years immediately preceding the first day of their respective programmes. Regarding first-year student places, to facilitate institutions' admissions procedures, the two-year period will be specified appropriately by the JUPAS office or the institutions concerned having regard to the first day of the respective programmes. Whether the residency requirement(1) is met is determined at or before the start of each academic year and shall remain the same for the remainder of that academic year. The first day of the academic year of a programme is determined by the programme's start day.
Cat. I-9: Hong Kong Identity Card + Visa label for unconditional stay

Category II (Cat. II) refers to non-subsidised fees and applies to persons not meeting the eligibility criteria in the above-mentioned Category I. These persons include:
•Dependant visa/entry permit holders who were below 18 years old when first issued with such visa/entry permit by the ImmD, and they do not meet the two-year residency requirement(1);
•Holders of a full-time employment visa/work permit;
•Holders of a visa/entry permit for various admission schemes (including the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme or the Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents); and
•Non-local students (such as holders of a student visa/entry permit; holders of a visa/entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates; dependant visa/entry permit holders who were 18 years old or above when first issued with such visa/entry permit by the ImmD).
Category II persons may still apply for government-subsidised sub-degree, undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes but have to pay non-subsidised fees. 
Note(1): 
Regarding the residency requirement for JUPAS applications for government-subsidised first-year-first-degree student places, applicants are required to provide the following proof:
(a) proof from the applicant that he or she is enrolled as a full-time student in a school offering a formal curriculum in Hong Kong for the one-year period ending on May 31 in the year in which his or her respective programme begins; or
(b) for those who cannot provide the proof in (a) above, a statement of travel records of the applicant which can be obtained at a fee from the ImmD covering the two-year period to demonstrate that the applicant is not absent from Hong Kong for a maximum of 90 days in each year of the two-year period.

Q3: What are the entry requirements for undergraduate programmes?

A3: Students holding the HKDSE qualification should meet the entry requirements of
(1) level 3 in Chinese Language;
(2) level 3 in English Language;
(3) level 2 in Mathematics;
(4) Attained in Citizenship and Social Development; and
(5) level 2 in one elective subject.

Q4: What type of undergraduate programmes do the College offer?

Q5: Which programmes are subsidized by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP)? How do I apply?

A5: Local applicants applying for Year 1 entry to the following programmes subsidized by SSSDP are required to submit their applications through JUPAS:
Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architecture (JSSC02)

Q6: I am a current year HKDSE candidate. How should I apply to your self-financing undergraduate programmes?

A6: For self-financing undergraduate programmes, current year HKDSE candidates may apply through the online application system at https://apply.chuhai.edu.hk/.

Applicants may also apply through the Electronic Advanced Application System for Post-secondary Programmes (EAPP) at https://www.eapp.gov.hk/.

Q7: I will take Mathematics extended part M1 in HKDSE. Would you consider M1 as an elective?

A7: Besides Category A elective subjects, Mathematics extended part modules (M1/M2) can also be used to meet the elective requirement. If students take both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only.

Q8: I am a non-Chinese speaking student. May I use alternative qualifications in Chinese Language to meet the HKDSE Chinese Language requirements?

A8: Non-Chinese speaking (NCS) applicants must obtain one of the following Chinese Language qualifications as the equivalent of HKDSE Chinese Language subject:
1. Applied Learning Chinese: Attained or above
2. GCSE / IGCSE : Grade C or 4 or above
3. GCE A-level: Grade E or above

Q9: I will be retaking the HKDSE. Will the College consider combined HKDSE results?

A9: Yes. Students holding HKDSE qualification may submit a combined results of 2 consecutive years.

Q10: I am an Associate Degree / Higher Diploma holder. Am I eligible to apply for admission?

A10: Holders of accredited Associate Degree / Higher Diploma from local educational institutions may submit an undergraduate application for Year 2 or Year 3 entry.

Q11: I am not a current year HKDSE candidate but would like to apply to your undergraduate degree programmes. What are the application procedures?

A11: For self-financing programmes, please apply through the online application system and upload (1) a recent passport-size photo; (2) copy of your Hong Kong Identity Card; (3) copies of your school academic results and certificates, public examination results, Student Learning Profile [SLP]; (4) recommendation letter from your school (if applicable); (5) a non-refundable application fee of $200 for local applicants.

Q12: How much is the application fee? How should I pay?

A12: The non-refundable application fee is HK$200 for local students or $500 for non-local students.

Q13: Can I apply for more than one programme?

A13: Applicants may choose to apply for a maximum of 3 programmes in each of their application.

Q14: Will applicants be required to attend an admissions interview?

A14: Yes. Selected applicants will receive an interview invitation by email.

Q15: Are the undergraduate programmes offered by Hong Kong Chu Hai College recognized in Hong Kong?

A15: Yes. All of our undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes are accredited by the HKCAAVQ and fully recognized under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (QF).

Q16: How much are your tuition fees for undergraduate programmes (Local students)?

A16: Tuition fees of our 4-year undergraduate programmes for 2027/28 intake are as follows:
Local Student(subsidised fees):
Year 1 - Year 2: HK$75,280 per year, payable in two instalments.
Year 3 - Year 4: HK$80,630 per year, payable in two instalments.

Local Students (non-subsidised fees)
Year 1 – Year 4: HK$106,220 per year

Q17: Upon admission to the College, what are the fees involved?

A17: Upon admission, local students are required to pay a registration fee of HK$5,000 (part of your tuition fee for Semester 1). Balance of the first tuition fee instalment and a caution fee of HK$400 should be paid by the specified date.

Q18: Are scholarships or bursaries available to newly admitted students?
