The 76th Commencement of Hong Kong Chu Hai College was held on campus on 1 and 2 August 2026. Across five sessions, a total of 1,781 graduates were awarded bachelor's and master's degrees, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys.

The first session was presided over by Mr. Lam Kwong Siu, GBM, GBS, SBS, Chairman of the Board of Governors, who authorised the conferment of testimonials. Guests of honour for the respective sessions included Dr. Elsie Leung Oi Sie, GBM, JP, former Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR Government; Professor Raymond Li, Professor of Practice and Head of the Department of Journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University; Dr. Elizabeth Woo Li, Chairman of the Sinological Development Charitable Foundation in Hong Kong; Dr. Yiu Chi Shing, GBS, JP, Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the Hong Kong General Association of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification; and Professor Wong Kam Sing, GBS, JP, former Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR Government and Chairman of the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation.

In her address, President Ms. Jane Zhang extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduates. She emphasised that graduation signifies not only the completion of academic studies, but also the cultivation of qualities that no machine can fully replace. In the face of rapid advances in artificial intelligence and technology, she encouraged graduates to harness technology wisely rather than be ruled by it. She urged them to remain broadly learned and prudent in thought, to discern truth from falsehood amid the deluge of information, and to stay open to listening, learning, and empathy, so as to broaden their horizons and contribute meaningfully to society.

The five guests of honour shared diverse perspectives with the graduates. Dr. Elsie Leung encouraged them to face an era of rapid technological advancement and a turbulent international order with courage. She acknowledged that anxiety is inevitable, but stressed that difficulties can be overcome through clear goals and persistent effort. She also emphasised that character building is a lifelong endeavour, urging graduates to uphold integrity, compassion, respect for the law, and empathy so that they may face future challenges with confidence.

Professor Raymond Li encouraged journalism graduates to remain curious, speak with courage, and stay connected to people, stressing that artificial intelligence cannot replace lived experience or human empathy, and that the future must be written and shaped by the graduates themselves. Dr. Elizabeth Woo Li highlighted Hong Kong's role as a "super value-adder" connecting China with global markets, and urged graduates in Chinese literature to embrace the mission of bridging East and West through cross-cultural exchange and translation.

Dr. Yiu Chi Shing noted that Hong Kong is entering a new phase driven by four engines — economic recovery, policy support, technological upgrading, and the consolidation of its international status — and urged graduates to seize emerging opportunities and contribute to the nation. Under the theme "Less, but Better," Professor Wong Kam Sing encouraged graduates of the Faculty of Science and Engineering to apply their expertise in architecture, culture, engineering, and artificial intelligence to advance carbon reduction and carbon neutrality, and to become shining examples of purpose and excellence. 

This year, three graduates were named to the President's List: Long Cheuk Lam (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences), Sun Yitong (Faculty of Business), and DESIERTO JOSAYA JOSH QUINONES (Faculty of Science and Engineering). The Commencement also featured the presentation of the Outstanding Teaching Award in recognition of exceptional teaching contributions. Recipients included Dr. Chang Huilin and Ms. Shirley Cheung (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences), Dr. Yun Lihong (Faculty of Business), Dr. Liu Wenyu (Faculty of Science and Engineering), and Dr. Pidchosa Oleksandr and Dr. Justina Yung Hoi Wing (Ng Teng Fong · Sino Group Belt and Road Research Institute). 

The Commencement concluded on a joyful note, as graduates departed with blessings and high expectations, ready to step confidently into the future.
