HKCHC Promotes Community Service and Care through Intergenerational Connection

02-04,2026

Hong Kong Chu Hai College upholds the traditional virtue of respecting and caring for the elderly. Recently, the Student Affairs Office led a group of students into the To Kwa Wan community to conduct a Lunar New Year visit for the elderly. Students personally visited elderly households, not only delivering festive blessings and practical gift bags but also engaging in heartfelt conversations, listening to the life stories of the elders and filling the community with warmth.

The activity aimed to foster intergenerational harmony, allowing young students to build warm connections with the elderly in the community. In addition to presenting gift bags, the students spent time chatting with the elderly with patience and smiles, learning about their daily lives and needs. The elders expressed great delight at the students’ visit, with laughter and warmth filling their homes. Some elderly shared that interacting with the younger generation brought them joy and a sense of care, reminiscent of the lively festive atmosphere of years past.

Participating students admitted that the activity gave them a deeper understanding of how respecting and caring for the elderly is not only a virtue but also a cornerstone of social inclusion. Through face-to-face interactions, they learned to express respect for the elderly through action and drew inspiration from their wisdom, gaining a more tangible appreciation for community care.

In the future, the Student Affairs Office of Hong Kong Chu Hai College will continue to promote diverse community service projects, encouraging students to actively engage with different communities, translate care into concrete actions, and fulfill the mission of "serving society." The college remains committed to nurturing students’ sense of social responsibility and humanistic spirit.

This activity not only brought festive warmth to the elderly but also provided students with valuable learning experiences, successfully building a bridge for intergenerational communication and reflecting the college’s belief in collaborating with the community to create a harmonious society.
