Nippon Paint ‘FORWARD- Human Centred Design’ Design Competition Adjudication (English Version Only)
Further to the briefing session and guest lecture held in Nov 2020, the Nippon Paint-sponsored Asia Young Designer Awards (AYDA) 2020 (Hong Kong region) attracted a total of 32 submissions. 8 proposals were subsequently shortlisted in the first round, and the final presentation cum adjudication took place on 19 Mar 2021 at our college.
This year we were delighted to have Mr Thomas Cheung (Vice President, the HK Institute of Architects and Director, Cheung Kong-yeung Architects Ltd.), Ms Vivien Mak (Director, P&T Architects & Engineers), Mr Cary Lau (Director, Aedas Ltd) and Prof Paul Chu (Head of Architecture Department) as jurors, with Nippon Paint (HK) Co Ltd. representatives Ms Frances Wong (Assistant Marketing Manager), Ms Josephine Chung (Assistant Marketing Manager), Ms Kirsty Mou (Business Development Representative, Marketing Division), and Ms Betty Wong (Project Development Executive) presented at the presentation and adjudication session.
The submissions revealed the unique Hong Kong urban characters and contestants’ creativity in response to the theme ‘FORWARD- Human Centred Design’. The 8 finalists presented their projects and then responded to jurors’ questions and comments.
The jurors selected Gold, Silver, Bronze Awards, Best Colour Choice Award and Best Green Innovation Award after extensive deliberation. The results would be announced in the prize presentation ceremony later this year. The Gold Award winner will represent Hong Kong to participate in the International AYDA (Architecture discipline) competition and workshop this summer, and the overall champion thus selected would be sponsored by Nippon Paint to join an international design workshop at Harvard University.
