Structure of Urban Heat Island Architectural Design to Reduce Heat
Island Effect by Professor Oka

Professor Tatsuo Oka is now the Department head of Department of
Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Utsunomiya University, Japan.
He is also the Chairman of Japan National Team of International
Framework Committee, Green Building Challenge from 1996-2005.
Professor Oka got his doctoral degree in Waseda University in 1981,
with the research topic of Urban Heat Island, which is a significant
topic in the Environmental and sustainable planning. Since then,
Professor Oka has continued his research in the environmental studies,
focuses in energy aspects, green building and planning strategies.
His contribution is not limited in his researched area, but he is
also responsible for leading doctoral candidates in the relevant
environmental topics such as energy issue, urban planning and living
environment. In the past 10 years, there are altogether 22 student
got the PhD degree under Professor Oka's guidance.
