Visit to the Department of Architecture, National University
of Singapore
Faculty members and students of the Department of Architecture
visited their counterparts in the National University of Singapore
(NUS) from 28th to 31st March 2005. The visit was regarded as part
of the International Visiting Programme which is in line with the
vision and mission of the College to flourish teaching quality,
staff development and international academic interplay.
Being ex-colonies as well as influential economic centres in Asia,
both Hong Kong and Singapore are facing challenges of the 21st Century
in various aspects. Architectural education and practice play a
significant role in the shaping of the built environment in Asia.
Having visited and participated in a wide range of lectures, design
studio etc, the faculty members were invited to share many ideas,
accomplishments as well as difficulties in meeting the emerging
challenges of architectural education in Asia with NUS faculty members.
We are delighted to receive the hospitality of NUS and their enthusiastic
sharing. It laid an important stone for further development and
cooperation in a wide range of areas such as programme design and
academic research. We would like to convey our appreciation to NUS
faculty members, particularly Prof. Heng Chye Kiang, and his colleagues
who devoted their resources to such a fruitful visit.
