Visit to the Department of Architecture and Architectual Engineering of Kyoto University, Japan

Mr. Patrick Luk (HKIA), faculty member of our Department of Architecture visited Kyoto University (KU) in Japan from 24 June to 1 July 2005. Mr. Luk was invited to visit the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering of KU.

The visit is part of the International Visiting Programme (IVP) which is in line with the vision and mission of the College to flourish teaching quality, staff development and international academic interplay.

In meeting the challenge of the ever-changing scenario of modern society in the 21st Century, architectural education in Asia has been undergoing equally severe challenge on critical rethinking. Japan, being a highly developed industrial nation in Asia, shares similar challenges in architectural education in terms of both ideology as well as methodology.

In order to understand the architectural programmes in KU, Mr. Luk participated in the thesis presentation, design studios and meetings etc. He was also invited to share ideas, experiences as well as difficulties in architectural education with the faculty members as well as students of KU.

We are delighted to receive the warmest welcome, hospitality and enthusiasm from the staff of KU with special thanks Professor Munemoto Junzo and Professor Monnai Teruyuki. We would like to express our appreciation to KU faculty members who devoted their time and resources to such a fruitful visit.
