"Our Ancestors Survived without Architects"

The talk will highlight the climatic-responsive aspect of selected vernacular architecture in various climates. The wisdom by laymen to provide comfortable shelter will be elaborated on their choices of materials, building forms, orientation, use of colours, types of construction etc.
Reflecting on the climate-responsiveness of modern architecture, what can we learn from our ancestors?

"Green Building: Past, Present & Future"


What is "green building"? Why and how? The presentation will trace the history of green building development globally and locally, with selected examples. An update on the latest relevant events will also be shared, paving the way to call for strategic actions for a sustainable future from all of us. We can make a difference for our children and ourselves.

Mr M K Leung has a keen interest on green architecture and environmental design for buildings. He graduated with distinction from the Department of Architecture, Hong Kong University in 1992 and worked in P&T Architects and Engineers Ltd for an aggregated term of 7 years, specializing in institutional and public building design. He founded LC2 Design Ltd in 2000. He pursued his further study on green architecture/passive environmental design in The University of Cambridge, UK in 1995-1996. Since then, he has been active in academic and professional circles related to the issue of school design, energy efficient buildings and green architecture.

 

 

Mr K S Wong is a registered architect in Hong Kong, graduated from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and with post-graduate research in the Environmental Research Group, UBC School of Architecture, Canada. He was the founding chairman of the Committee on Environment & Sustainable Development, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA), and currently a council member of the HK Professional Green Building Council (PGBC). Besides his architectural practice in association with Ronald Lu & Partners (HK) Ltd., Mr Wong offers part-time lecture as well as design critics in various local universities, including CUHK Department of Architecture, HKU Department of Architecture, HKPolyU Department of Building Services Engineering, and CityU Division of Building Science & Technology.
