Computer Programming Competition (2002)
Route Finding Game

CS/MIS CPC 2002

Aims

To encourage our students to apply what they learned from the courses in practical problem-solving, the Department of Computer Science (CS), Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) and CS Student Society will jointly organize an inter-department programming competition for CS and MIS students.

Eligibility

All undergraduate students of Department of Computer Science (CS) and Department of Management Information Systems (MIS). Individual and team entries are welcome. For team entries, the number of team members is limited to four.

Design and Implementation of "Route Finding Game"

To participate in this competition, individual students or groups of students are requested to design and implement a Route Finding computer game program.

The content of the game is to let the player find the shortest path to walk through a given maze from the entry to the exit. The game program can provide a reference solution based on "Route Path Finding Algorithm". The player can also draw a maze on the clipboard of the program and define the entry point and the exit point of the maze. The program will interpret the structure of the maze and the solution exit path. In case there are several solutions, the program should select the shortest path.

How to enter?

Contestants must register on/before 13 November 2002. Submission deadline is on 17 February 2003.
The results will be announced on 3 March 2003.

The candidate should submit an installation CD for his/her/their game including a report summarizing the design and operation of the program.
