Congraduations to Our Distinguished Alumnus Prof. Allen T. Chwang, who has just been granted fellow of the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing

 

Prof. Chwang Allen T., a graduate of our Mechanical Engineering Department in 1965, has just been granted fellow of the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing. After finishing his post-secondary education at our College, he furthered his studies overseas and gained a Master's degree at Saskatchewan University of Canada as well as a Doctoral degree at Caltech in U.S.A. He is now a Chair professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Hong Kong University. He is an expert of fluid mechanics and renowned for his study of waves. The Chwang's function, was named after his finding, is now being applied to designing seawall that reduces wave impacts. The absorbent seawall was adopted by the Hong Kong Government in 2002 for all new reclamations. It was first used along a reclaimed section of Victoria Harbour. Our sincere congratulations go to our outstanding alumnus Prof. Chwang!
