Prof. Allen T. Chwang, who has just been granted fellow of the Chinese
Academy of Science in Beijing

Prof. Chwang Allen T., a graduate of our Mechanical
Engineering Department in 1965, has just been granted fellow of
the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing. After finishing his post-secondary
education at our College, he furthered his studies overseas and
gained a Master's degree at Saskatchewan University of Canada as
well as a Doctoral degree at Caltech in U.S.A. He is now a Chair
professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Hong Kong University.
He is an expert of fluid mechanics and renowned for his study of
waves. The Chwang's function, was named after his finding, is now
being applied to designing seawall that reduces wave impacts. The
absorbent seawall was adopted by the Hong Kong Government in 2002
for all new reclamations. It was first used along a reclaimed section
of Victoria Harbour. Our sincere congratulations go to our outstanding
alumnus Prof. Chwang!
