Architecture education is a strange thing- students are asked to explore what 'space' is and yet they are contained in a common space- studio, where they draw, they live, they present and they grow. Studio is perceived as the soul of architecture education.

In Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong has been providing accredited architecture education for over 50 years and has long been the cradle for producing local architects. 10 years ago, the Chinese University of Hong Kong started to offer Architecture degree programme and since then, more and more tertiary institutions offer architecture-related courses for students interested in the 'applied art'. The situation has come to a climax in the year 2004 soon after the B.Sc.(Hons) in Architecture degree programme of Chu Hai College of Higher Education was successfully accredited by the HKCAA in 2004. Numerous universities and institutions started to offer architecture-related degree or diploma programmes in Hong Kong.

Based on the 2 or 3 things he knows about such current trend, Mr Paul CHU will introduce you this quiet yet critical change in Hong Kong Architecture tradition. He will also explore different architecture schools and studio settings, illustrating with both overseas and local examples- from Columbia GSAPP to Harvard GSD, from AA London to Tunghai, from HKU to our Chu Hai College of Higher Education.
