Background of the Competition
The ADA invites proposals for the design of an affordable and sustainable single-family house, which should respect the traditional architectural values and household's needs and requirements, while at the same time make way for modern techniques and applications.
The site assigned is a rectangular site located in the Sahafa quarter, north of Arriyadh City.

Two groups of students (registered as Group A & Group B of Chu Hai College) registered into the competition in the academic year 02-03. They then started a research study in the summer vacation of 2003.
The design was commenced in the Architectural Studio, a joint year studio, in the first term of academic year 2003-04. For better understanding of the regional issues, the students were asked to further study relevant background information of the region and to organize all findings and hand in a booklet to the course lecturer, in addition to the design presentation. The design was conducted in three stages from research and analysis, individual design to group work design. Interim presentations and critiques were arranged and all lecturers of design courses have participated in the critique sessions
