Chu Hai Archi-cultural Symposium 2010: Film, Architecture, and City

Background
The Department of Architecture, Chu Hai College of Education, Hong Kong, has been organizing Archi-cultural Symposia (CHACS) since 2005. As one of the tertiary institutes providing architectural degree programmes in Hong Kong, the College attempts to take the opportunity of converging scholars, practitioners and the public in order to arouse the awareness and interest of architectural students and the public on architectural and urban issues. Symposia of the previous years on "Cultural Heritage", "Vanishing Cityscape", "A Tale of Two Cities", and "Urban Space X Cultural Heritage" co-organized by Antiquities and Monuments Office, Museum of History, and Hong Kong Architecture Centre, inviting speakers from local, Mainland China, Singapore, Japan, Europe, the U.S.A., etc., has successfully drawn the attention of the academia, profession and public.

Theme
How is film art viewed through the eyes of architects? Architecture is regarded as the ancestor of film by the USSR director Eisenstein, and city provides the scenes in numberless films. On the other hand, film can also act as a medium for exploring the history, perception, design, planning, and depiction of architecture and city. With the architectural cases from both Hong Kong and overseas and the filmic cases of different ages, the speakers from the architectural discipline will present their research by moving image and discuss how film, architecture, and city shape each other in this symposium.

背 景 ：
香 港 珠 海 學 院 建 築 系 舉 辦 的 建 築 文 化 研 討 會 (CHACS) 始 於 2005 年 ， 作 為 其 中 一 所 提 供 建 築 學 位 課 程 的 大 專 院 校 ， 本 學 院 藉 此 機 會 匯 聚 不 同 學 者 、 專 業 人 仕 及 公 眾 ， 引 發 建 築 學 生 及 公 眾 對 建 築 與 都 市 議 題 的 關 注 及 興 趣 。 以 往 與 歷 史 博 物 館 、 古 物 古 蹟 辦 事 處 及 香 港 建 築 中 心 合 辦 關 於 「 文 化 傳 承 」 、 「 消 失 中 的 城 市 景 觀 」 、 「 雙 城 記 」 及 「 都 市 空 間 X 文 化 遺 產 」 之 研 討 會 ， 曾 邀 請 來 自 本 地 、 內 地 、 新 加 坡 、 日 本 、 歐 洲 、 美 國 等 地 講 者 演 說 ， 並 成 功 引 起 學 術 界 、 專 業 界 及 公 眾 的 廣 泛 注 目 。

主 題 ：
建 築 師 是 如 何 「 看 」 電 影 的 ？ 建 築 被 蘇 聯 導 演 愛 森 斯 坦 視 為 電 影 的 「 祖 先 」 ， 而 城 市 則 是 無 數 電 影 的 場 景 ， 反 過 來 電 影 也 ？ 發 了 建 築 與 城 市 於 歷 史 、 認 知 、 設 計 、 規 劃 、 描 繪 等 範 疇 的 探 索 。 多 位 來 自 建 築 界 別 的 講 者 ， 將 以 圖 像 及 短 片 等 多 媒 體 形 式 ， 並 以 香 港 和 海 外 的 建 築 以 及 不 同 年 代 的 電 影 作 案 例 ， 在 是 次 研 討 會 中 發 表 其 研 究 ， 並 討 論 電 影 、 建 築 與 城 市 的 互 相 影 響 與 塑 造 關 係 。
