Seminar on Interpersonal Skill in Project Management (Cultural Diversity), USA Practices and Experience

Mr. Chang is an alumnus of the Department of Civil Engineering and was then a Project Manager / Senior Transportation Engineer with 23 years experience in Multi-model Transportation Projects in the State of California, USA. He was currently managing 14 projects with a total contract sum of US$150 million, from Project Initiation to Construction Contract Administration and was working with a workforce of over 4,000 employees in the Agency that includes Administrators, Engineers, Planners, Safety Investigators, Maintenance Managers, Supervisors and Operators coming from different parts the world. Such cultural diversity created a very challenging atmosphere to Project Managers. For a project to be successfully delivered, the project team must understand and apply appropriate project management techniques. While the latter techniques were necessary, they alone were not sufficient for effective project management. The interpersonal skills of the Project Manager and team members had as much of an impact on the success of a project as technical skills.

Mr. Chang shared his experience from the USA practices to students
