August 2009

Mr. KO Ken Young, a year 3 student of the Chu Hai Architecture Department (an exchange student from Korea's Dankook University) received an award of Honourable Mention in the international design competition "COLLABORATION WITH NATURE: Climate Action by Architecture - Eastern Methodology for Sustainable Design" in August 2009. The competition, with the famous Asian architect Ken Yeang as one of the jurors, was organized by the Seoul Association of Architects.

KO's submitted entry "Collaboration with Nature in a Highly Densed Urban Area: a Youth Hostel that can Breath" was tutored by Assistant Professor Stan Lai of the Department, and further developed from his studio project during his study in the Department. The project investigates the feasibility of a sustainable medium-rise hostel utilizing natural ventilation without air-conditioning.
