Architecture Staff and Students Japan Study Tour
May 2007
A study tour to Tokyo and Yokohama by the faculty members and students
of the Department of Architecture was organized from May 11 to 15
of 2007. During the 5-day visit, they had interflow sessions with
their counterparts in the University of Tokyo and Waseda
University. Professor Akira Fujii of the University of
Tokyo presented his latest research works on tensile structures
and African vernacular architecture and Professor Nobuaki Furuya
introduced his recent architectural design projects. The participants
from both sides also had thorough discussions on the latest architecture
and urban issues faced by Tokyo and Hong Kong.
Other than the various contemporary commercial, cultural and residential
buildings and urban projects in the cities, the students also visited
the exhibitions of "New Trends of Architecture in Europe and
Asia Pacific 2006-2007" and "GA House Projects" where
they obtained valuable inspirations of design ideas from the architectural
projects exhibited.
