Department of Architecture Faculty Presenting in the 15th Chinese Academic Conference on Vernacular Architecture

Mr. Stan Lai (HKIA, RA), a faculty member of our Department of Architecture, presented a paper on “Reconstructing Nga Tsin Wai: The Morphological Transformation of a Guangfu Walled Village in Xin’an Region 重 構 衙 前 圍 :一 條 新 安 地 區 廣 府 圍 村 的 形 態 演 變 ” in the 15th Chinese Academic Conference on Vernacular Architecture 第 十 五 次 中 國 民 居 學 術 會 議 on 20 – 22 July 2007.

The Architecture Committee of the Chinese Vernacular Architecture Research Association and Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology jointly organized the conference in Xi’an. Over a hundred scholars and practitioners form Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Korea participated in the discussion on the theme “The Innovation of Chinese Vernacular Architecture and Culture”.

After the Conference, the participants joined the field trip in Shaanxi Province on the following 4 days and visited places which included courtyard house villages, cave dwelling villages, traditional towns, imperial tomb architecture and sites of early Chinese Communist Party.
