Biography
Dr. Man-Chung Tang is the Chairman of the Board of T.Y. Lin
International, a consulting engineering firm with its headquarter
in San Francisco. He is an honorary professor of Tsinghua,
Tongji, Southeast, Chongqing Jiaotong, Southwest Jiaotong
and Dalian Technical University. He received a Bachelor degree
from Chu Hai, Hong Kong in 1959 and a Dr. of Engineering degree
from Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany in 1965. He
has also been conferred honorary degrees of Dr. of Engineering
and Dr. of Literature.
Dr. Tang is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering,
a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and
an honorary member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
As a structural engineer, Dr. Tang's work covers bridges,
buildings and other types of structures. He has been involved
in the design, design review and/or construction engineering
of over 100 major bridges in various parts of the world. It
is once said, "The sun never sets on his bridges".
Currently, three of his world record span bridges are under
construction: the San Francisco Oakland Bridge, the
Caiyuanba Bridge and the Shibanpo Bridge.
In this lecture, Dr. Tang will share his experience with
the audience on the design concept of several new bridges
in Chongqing City.
