Department of Architecture - Architecture Lecture Series

Mr. Cary LAU, Mr. Boris LO and Mr. Paul CHU (Team 629187) obtained their Master of Architecture degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1998. In 2001 they extended their spirit from the soccer field to the open architectural design competition 'In Search for Diversity in School Design', the first-ever Hong Kong school design open competition which called for a through-train school design (a new school prototype that consists of both primary and secondary sessions). Their submission, 'Cluster of Interactive Green', was awarded champion out of 83 submissions by over 300 local and overseas architects. Their design proposal was accepted by the client and the design was under realization from 2002 to 2006. With the aim to suggest creative school design outside the 'Hong Kong standardized school' domain, the school encompassed such innovative ideas as 'redefined learning space module', 'separation within unification'. The school was recently completed in July 2006 and is now serving the first batch of students in Tseung Kwan O. Team 629187 was awarded '20 Emerging Hong Kong Architects for 21th Century ' in 2003. The team will share with us the school design, the process of realization, and last but not least, the memory of creating the school. The lecture will be followed by a visit to the school on 18 Nov 2006 (Sat), from 10.00am-1.00pm.
