Faculty of Science and Engineering
Mission
The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers programmes in Architecture,
Civil Engineering and Computer Science. The mission of the Faculty
is to discover, preserve and disseminate scientific and engineering
knowledge.
As our world is becoming more global, more diverse, and more technologically
oriented, there is a greater need for environmental protection and
architecture on a human scale. The Faculty of Science and Engineering
is responding to these changes by providing guidance and expertise
to educate the next generation of scientists, engineers and architects.
| Degree
Programmes Fully Recognized by the Hong Kong Government |
The four degree programmes leading to the
- Bachelor of Science
(Hons) in Computer Science,
- Bachelor of Engineering
(Hons) in Civil Engineering,
- Bachelor of Science
(Hons) in Architecture, and
- Bachelor of Architecture
(Hons) - a professional BArch (Hons) architecture programme
are accredited by the HKCAA, which is fully
recognized by the Hong Kong Government.
Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering offers programme for students
to pursue a career in the construction of public infrastructure
such as bridges, highways, roads and drainage, etc. Laboratory work
and field practice are an integral part of the curriculum to prepare
the students for a career in civil and structural engineering. Emphasis
is placed on various aspects of the design and construction process
including structural analysis, engineering materials and geology,
building construction, city planning and building codes, construction
estimates, and transportation engineering.
Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture provides a dynamic programme on the
design and development of the physical and social environment to
provide a better living experience, using architectural CAD systems
as a tool. Design workshop, student projects, annual exhibitions
and competitions, and site visits, are all provided in the programme
to familiarize the students with areas of specialization such as
architectural planning, construction and engineering management,
landscaping, environmental protection, building codes control, urban
and interior design, etc.
Department of Computer
Science
The Department provides students with academic and professional
skills in the field of computer science with emphasis on development
and research in software and hardware systems. In addition to these
skills, they can enhance and consolidate their ability with practical
experience by means of a year-long, supervised, computer science
project in local IT companies or universities. Graduates are strongly
equipped with their IT professional knowledge, to solve existing
technical problems, to meet challenges, and to create new technology
in the field of IT services.
