Equipment and Facilities
Civil Engineering Laboratory
To meet the need for quality teaching in various disciplines, the
Department of Civil Engineering has acquired many items of laboratory
equipment to provide training to students and opportunity for them
to gain hands on experience.
The Civil Engineering Laboratory is equipped with the Material
Testing Laboratory, Soil Mechanics Laboratory, Fluid Mechanics Laboratory,
Structures Laboratory and Surveying Practices Laboratory. The facilities
in the Material Testing Laboratory include testing equipment for
concrete, cement and bitumen, 2000 kN concrete compression machine,
56-litre multi-flow mixer, 120-litre oven, and Pundit ultrasonic
testers, etc. The Soil Mechanics Laboratory provides opportunities
for students to gain practical training for enhancing their knowledge
on mechanics of soils. The experiments that are made available to
our students are permeability test, consolidation test, direct shear
test and triaxial test. The Fluid Mechanics Laboratory and Structures
Laboratory are equipped with modern hydraulic and structural testing
facilities including open channel, notch for flow measurement, continuous
beam apparatus and torsion apparatus, etc. The Surveying Practices
Laboratory provides a number of theodolites and electronic theodolites
(Total Stations) for students to conduct surveying practices.
