Aims of the Programme

The Programme aims to provide quality education and training in civil engineering for professional practices with the following emphases:

  • To educate students to become civil engineers for designing, building and managing building and structural systems, supporting and enhancing economic developments and creating a better quality of life.
  • To contribute to the developments and maintenance of infrastructural facilities and systems, especially in the local and neighbouring regions.
  • To develop students' engineering problem-solving skills using the latest technologies.
  • To equip students with knowledge of sustainable developments for the improvement of the living environment and the preservation of the natural environment.
  • To understand ethical issues associated with their profession, and be able to apply their acquired knowledge and skills to the betterment of society.
  • To prepare graduates for future professional career developments or pursuing their postgraduate studies in engineering.

Objectives of the Programme

The objectives of the Programme are to equip our students with:

  • A solid foundation in mathematics, science, computer and business, as well as fundamental knowledge of relevant engineering principles in civil engineering disciplines.
  • The capability for critical thinking, engineering reasoning, problem solving, experimentation, and teamwork.
  • Practical skills and experience to design, construct, manage and operate the essential elements of civil engineering systems in the fields of structures, water resources, environment, geotechnical, transportation and building construction.
  • The understanding of sustainability through learning in environmental engineering, materials and construction.
  • In-depth and advanced professional knowledge in various aspects of civil engineering works including the related ordinances, codes of practices, regulations and standards, and keeping track of the latest trend in the civil engineering profession.
  • A sense of professional ethics, social commitment and responsibility to the public.
  • Professional competence to enhance their employability in a wide range of professional careers in private and public sectors.
  • Motivations for life-long self-enhancement through continuing professional development programmes.
  • Ability to conduct research and pursue postgraduate studies in civil engineering.
