Aims of the Programme
Architectural practice in Hong Kong can be categorized into conception,
coordination and implementation. During the conceptual process of
an architectural project, architects express their imaginative concepts
for the contractors to implement. As the levels of perception between
these two groups are often different and distinct, coordination
is necessary to ensure that the design concepts are being correctly
implemented. Seeing that architectural designs and administrative
building controls are getting much complex in Hong Kong, the demand
for personnel who can perform effective coordination becomes increasingly
high.
The Programme aims to provide quality education and training in
architecture for professional practices. The specific aims of the
Programme are to:
- Inherit the mission of enhancing people's lifestyles and the
sense of community through architecture and the built environment.
- Provide students with sufficient and solid architectural knowledge
and skills to become good architectural designers who understand
the design concepts as well as the roles and professional responsibilities
of an architect, especially in the changing context of the natural
and built environment.
- Develop students' concern for the environment and the knowledge
on sustainable design.
- Provide knowledge and skills for resolving technological problems
with contractors to achieve architectural excellence.
- Provide knowledge on the historical, socio-cultural and environmental
context of architecture and the wide professional context of architectural
practice, allowing multiple career paths for further development.
