Programme Aims and Objectives
Aims of the Programme
The Programme generally provides a broad-based and highly flexible
curriculum with integrated finance, business and management elements
to our students, allowing them to develop their professional careers.
It specifically aims to produce technically versatile, professionally
ethical, globally focused and industry sought-after graduates, particularly
to meet the foreseeable demands in the banking, financial and commercial
markets in the region, as a consequence of the economical and financial
developments in the Mainland and in Hong Kong.
The Programme is therefore to provide students with:
- An all-round education with emphasis on a wide range of knowledge
and skills in banking, financial management, sector finance, investment,
technical finance and issues on Greater China.
- Better employability to develop their career in the area of
finance.
- Solid theoretical knowledge on finance, business and management
to pursue post-graduate study or research.
- A good sense of professional ethics, social responsibility and
commitment.
- Adequate knowledge and skills in using advanced technologies
related to business applications.
Objectives of the Programme
The objectives of the Programme are to provide students with a
wider range of potential job opportunities by helping them to develop
broad-based and multi-disciplinary skills in finance and general
management for financial as well as commercial organisations, locally
as well as overseas, particularly in view of the career opportunities
as a consequence of the economic and financial developments in China.
The programme not only prepares the students for further specialisation
in finance in postgraduate studies and professional programmes in
Hong Kong and overseas, but also provides them with training for
professional qualifications and postgraduate studies in the field
of finance. After completion of the programme, students are expected
to possess:
- A comprehensive range of skills and knowledge in finance and
banking so that they are able to contribute as an employee in
almost any type of financial institutions, or alternatively to
assume financial responsibilities in any types of organisations
- Industry-specific financial skills, such as shipping, real estate
and venture capital, with particularly relevance to the regional
developments
- Knowledge on the latest economical and financial developments
in Greater China to capture on the career opportunities as a consequence
of these developments
- An understanding of finance from a psychological perspective
- Business and economic knowledge as well as management and mathematical
skills for management functions. These knowledge and skills also
serve as the building blocks for more advanced learning
- Accounting concepts, framework and technical abilities to understand
financial statements for management analysis, decisions and control
- A strong sense of professional ethics, integrity, accountability
and social responsibility
- Generic skills in creativity, critical thinking, and effective
communication
- Ability to apply IT to business applications
- Legal knowledge in business and taxation for commercial purposes
- Ability in self-learning, independent research, and application
of knowledge in the real world.
