General education serves to enhance
students' language proficiency and historical knowledge about China,
aiming at strengthening the students' generic skills.
Students are trained with up-to-date theories of media in the courses
of Journalism core and Communication core before they can develop
specific professional expertise in print media or electronic media.
Social science fundamentals help students to relate mass media
to society at large and encourage them to develop the ability to
criticize media practice. Courses in this discipline are designed
to prepare students for further postgraduate education and research.
Chinese contextual communication brings media practice within the
context of Greater China that opens a career prospect for our graduates
to work in the Chinese-speaking areas besides local employment opportunity.
