Programme Structure

The courses of the programme are structured into different types of requirements as follows:

  • College-wide Required (CR) - providing fundamental knowledge in languages, culture, history and physical education.

  • Departmental Required (DR) - emphasizing fundamental concepts and advanced knowledge of language and literature as well as practicing communication skills

  • Electives (E) - enabling students to strengthen and further their expertise within their chosen field of study.

Classification of Courses

The courses of the programme are classified into five domains to develop the generic skills of students by enhancing their knowledge and understanding in the following subject areas:

  • Language Systems
  • Literature
  • Communications Skills
  • Liberal Arts
  • General Education

Language Systems

The Language Systems courses form one of the key components of the programme, by focusing on students' accuracy and language awareness, particularly in writing and speaking, in order to strengthen students' competitiveness in a commercial environment. Language Systems courses may be Department Required (DR) or Elective (E).

Literature

As stated in the aims and objectives of the programme, our graduates are strongly encouraged to study literature to develop their communication- and language skills, cultural awareness and critical and creative thinking. The Literature courses may be Department Required (DR) or Elective (E).

Liberal Arts

The Liberal Arts courses on the programme use English in order to introduce students to the study of wider topic areas as well as increasing their communicative abilities, confidence and general knowledge. They provide an element of choice to allow for students' interests, and thus are all Elective (E).
