Programme Characteristics

The characteristics of the programme are two-fold, since it nurtures our students to possess knowledge and virtues, broad-mindedness, confidence, commitment, global vision, creativity and adaptability, language proficiency and numeracy skills on one hand, and it equips our students with a solid foundation of specified skills in their chosen disciplines on the other. The programme itself also prepares students to pursue advanced studies and enhance their career prospects. The curriculum is divided into streams or subject areas which are described in the following sections.

Chinese Studies Stream

In line with the programme aim and objectives, general education courses are provided to enhance language proficiency, numeracy, creativity, communication and the sense of commitment to society. This group also aims to provide students with a concrete foundation in disciplines of arts and humanities with the focus on aspects of Chinese Literature.

Business Studies Stream

In order to consolidate students' broad base of business knowledge and skills, a number of diverse range of courses are provided to develop their individual potentials especially in a knowledge based economy like Hong Kong. As our students of this stream are equipped to face the increasing challenge of their careers in the business sector, a broad view of business knowledge is definitely essential in dealing with the complexity of business operations.
The courses in this stream equip students with fundamental business knowledge and mathematics competence. These areas serve as building blocks and develop students' interests when they proceed to more advanced stages of learning. The courses listed below also focus on functional aspects in business organizations, providing a base for solving problems in a complex business environment.

Media Studies Stream

This stream aims to prepare students for further studies in Media or work in the media industry. Courses in this stream are to give students a thorough understanding of journalism and its tradition with emphasis on ethical and legal issues involved in media practice. It also provides a basic theoretical training of communication skills and understanding of mass media. Courses in this stream also provide an intensive training of broadcast journalism. Studio sessions are to familiarize students with the use of studio equipment, and specialized subjects are to deliver both theoretical and practical training in a variety of radio and TV news production.

Science and Engineering Stream

This stream provides students with diverse curriculum of science and engineering with the focus on foundation of civil engineering and architecture disciplines. It also prepares students to articulate to the bachelor degree programmes of their chosen disciplines. The civil engineering courses allow students to pursue a career in the construction of public infrastructure such as bridges, highways, roads and drainage, etc. The architecture courses provide the knowledge and skills on the design and development of the physical and social environment to provide a better living experience, using architectural CAD systems as a tool. Students taking courses in this stream are prepared to pursue a career in civil engineering or architecture through articulation to more advanced degree programmes.
