IT Facilities and Services
In order to provide an information-rich environment for our students,
the College has significantly invested in IT facilities. As early
as 1982, the Computer Centre spent HK$1.2 million for the purchase
of computers and related facilities. The College has always realised
the importance of IT education and continues to provide funding
for state-of-the-art facilities so that our students can get access
to the latest technology. During the five-year period between
1997 and 2001, the College invested HK$ 7.4 Million in
IT equipment so as to keep up with the increasing demand in IT
and related services.
Campus-wide, High Speed Computer Network
The whole campus is wired with fibre optics cable LAN with multiple
access points enabling high-speed Internet access via a pair of
T1 dedicated lines, enabling a continuous free flow of information
via state-of-the-art technology to every member of the College.
IT Facilities for Teaching and Learning
Quality
In order to provide a better teaching and learning environment,
campus-wide LCD flat computer monitors have been adopted since
1998 to reduce health hazards such as eyestrain, and to provide
extra comfort for staff and students in the workspace.
Computer Laboratories with Internet
Access
Internet access in computer laboratories and the Library enhances
the learning experience by giving students hands-on experience
during instruction and allowing students to easily obtain information
in an effective manner.
E-Learning Portals
The College has set up a web-based learning environment to enhance
the effectiveness of teaching and learning, by making asynchronous
teaching and learning possible. Course notes, tests, and exams
are stored on servers located on campus. The stored material will
consist of audio, video, text, and graphics. Students will be
able to access the stored classes remotely via the Internet. Interaction
between the student and the instructor will also be facilitated
by software tools supporting collaborative work such as chat-board,
on-line mock examinations and electronic submission of assignments.
Students can get instant results after their mock exam and lecturers
can grade their assignments on line with comments and grades.
IT Technical Support
The Computer Centre is staffed by a number of experienced technicians
whose job is to provide effective IT services to both the students
and the administration. Five full-time staff and a number of student-assistants
are deployed in maintaining the daily operation and ensuring consistent
and stable IT services for the College.
