Faculty of Science and Enginering

Research Assistant (Ref.: FSE-UGC/IDS13/14-TA)
Duties:(a) provide technical support on research projects; (b) carry out laboratory tests, field sampling and data analysis; (c) conduct computer simulation and prepare technical reports; (d) liaise with different parties involved in research projects; and (e) carry out other research-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:(i) a Bachelor’s degree in civil/material/transportation engineering or above; (ii) knowledge of material testing and material analysis software would be an advantage; (iii) fluent in both written and spoken English and Chinese; and (iv) self-motivated and well organized.
Remuneration:commensurate with qualification and working experience. Appointment will be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Research Assistant (Ref.: FSE-UGC/IDS13/14-TB)
Duties:(a) provide technical support on research projects; (b) carry out field sampling and data analysis; (c) conduct computer simulation and prepare technical reports; (d) liaise with different parties involved in research projects; and (e) carry out other research-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:(i) a Bachelor’s degree in civil/hydraulic engineering or above; (ii) knowledge of water sampling and hydraulic modelling software would be an advantage; (iii) fluent in both written and spoken English and Chinese; and (iv) self-motivated and well organized.
Remuneration:commensurate with qualification and working experience. Appointment will be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Research Assistant (Ref.: FSE-UGC/IDS13/14-TC)
Duties:(a) provide technical support on research projects; carry out field sampling and data analysis; (b) develop a computer based urban model and conduct computer simulation; (c) conduct research, analyse data and prepare technical reports; (d) liaise with different parties involved in research projects; and (e) carry out other research-related duties as assigned .
Requirements:(i) at least a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, urban studies, architecture, computer science, or related discipline; (ii) minimum 2 years experience and engagement in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping applications, or 3D Urban Information Modelling software, or Computer Programming at professional level or academic level; (iii) demonstrated mastery of MS Office Suite, Adobe Suite, and demonstrate good understanding of CAD, with ability to learn new software and systems quickly; (iv) fluency in both written and spoken English and Chinese, with ability to prepare reports and presentations; and (v) well organised and self-motivated to work independently and efficiently under pressure, and capable to meet deadlines with minimum supervision.

Research Assistant (Ref.: FSE-UGC/IDS13/14-TD)
Duties:(a) setup of HPC computing cluster; provide computing support on research projects; (b) conduct computer simulation; prepare technical reports; and (c) carry out other research-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:(i) a Bachelor’s degree in computing / information technology / electronic engineering or above; (ii) Proficiency in C/C++; knowledge and experience on one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: [GPU/CUDA programming, parallel programming with OpenMP and MPI, data processing with Hadoop, cloud computing with Openstack]; (iii) fluent in both written and spoken English and Chinese; and (iv) self-motivated and able to work independently.
Remuneration:commensurate with qualification and working experience. Appointment will be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Research Coordinator (Ref.: FSE-UGC/IDS13/14-AA)
Duties:(a) assist in coordinating research activities and preparing relevant reports; (b) organize and promote scholarly events of interest, such as seminars, workshops and exhibitions; (c) provide support to research programmes and collaborations with academic and professional institutions; and (d) perform other administrative duties as assigned to ensure quality operation of the faculty.
Requirements:(i) a Bachelor’s degree or above, with 2 years or more relevant working experience; (ii) excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, analytical and interpersonal skills; (iii) detail-oriented with excellent follow-up skills to meet deadlines; (iv) fluent in both written and spoken English and Chinese; and (v) self-motivated and able to work independently.
Remuneration:commensurate with qualification and working experience. Appointment will be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Administrative Assistant (Ref.: FSE-UGC/IDS13/14-AB)
Duties:(a) perform a wide range of administrative functions to facilitate efficient operation of the faculty; (b) assist in coordinating the flow of information among faculty members; (c) arrange meetings and maintain relevant informaton and records; and (d) support scholarly activities of the faculty, such as seminars, workshops and exhibitions.
Requirements:(i) a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline; experience in clerical and administrative procedures and systems are preferred but not a must; (ii) competency in computer skills and knowledge of MS Office using Word, PowerPoint and Excel; (iii) attention to detail and accuracy; and (iv) fluent in both written and spoken English and Chinese.
Remuneration:commensurate with qualification and working experience. Appointment will be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Research Assistant (Ref.: FSE-UGC/FDS13/E02/14-TA)
Duties:(a) assist in theoretical study and algorithm implementation in medical image processing; and (b) carry out other research-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:(i) a BSc/BEng or higher degree in computing / information technology / electronic engineering; (ii) proficiency in C/C++; (iii) knowledge and experience in signal processing, medical imaging and/or GPU/CUDA programming; and (iv) able to work independently.
Remuneration:commensurate with qualification and working experience. Appointment will be made on contract basis for one year with the possibility of renewal subject to project funding.

Research Assistant (23-month contract): (Ref.: UGC/FDS13/H11/14)
Project Title:Filipina Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong: Language Use and Impact on the Hong Kong Speech Community
Requirements:Applicants should possess a good Bachelor's degree or above in English Language, Linguistics, or a related discipline. They should also have a strong background in the core linguistic disciplines of Phonetics and Phonology, and Sociolinguistics. Relevant experience in research will be an advantage. The appointee should have good interpersonal and organisation skills, and be able to work independently and meet tight deadlines. He/She will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Principal Investigator in managing all aspects of the research, such as designing questionnaires and interview questions, collecting and analysing data, liaising with subjects, organising interviews, coordinating seminars, transcribing and compiling speech data, conducting speech analysis, and preparing research report. The appointee should also provide secretarial and research support to the project, and perform other duties as assigned.
Remuneration: commensurate with qualification and working experience.
