Characteristics |
The characteristics of the programme are two-fold
:-
1. it nurtures our students to possess knowledge and virtues, broad-mindedness,
confidence, commitment, global vision, creativity and adaptability,
language proficiency and numeracy skills on one hand, and
2. it equips our students with a solid foundation of specified skills
in computer science on the other.
The programme itself also prepares students to pursue advanced studies
and enhance their career prospects. |
Classification of Courses
The courses of the programme are classified into seven domains to develop
the generic skills and specified skills of students by enhancing their
knowledge and understanding in the subject areas of
general education, business studies, computer science core, software
development, Internet systems, network and system administration, and
industrial experience.

In line with the programme aim and objectives,
general education courses are provided to enhance language proficiency,
numeracy, creativity, communication and the sense of commitment
to society.

In order to strengthen students' competitiveness in a commercial environment, a number of courses are provided to develop their individual
potentials especially in the knowledge-based economy city like Hong Kong. As our students of this programme are equipped to face the increasing challenge of IT related jobs in the business sector,a broad view of business knowledge is definitely essential in dealing with the complexity of business operations. In view of this, the

our graduates are equipped with specified skills at associate professional
level. The computer core courses lead our students to have a general

As one of the key components of the programme,
the software development courses are provided to develop students'
individual talents in different IT related professions such as software
development. These courses are especially provided to familiarize
our students with the latest software development methodology and
tools in this highly developed information age. The courses in software
development are provided to keep pace with rapid IT developments
such as the cross-platform software adaptability, web-based applications,
secured E-commerce, mobile computing and data warehousing. The courses
are:

| Internet Systems |
Internet is the backbone of the information age; activities
such as E-commerce, information exchange and sharing all depend on
the efficiency and reliability of the network. A good understanding
in Internet systems is essential to building IT systems in this information
age. The core knowledge of computer science, software development
experience and Internet expertise can greatly enhance our students'
competitiveness in the sophisticated computer-and-network driven world.
To this end, our programme provides a number of courses with the latest
contents aiming at developing the students' ability to design client-server,
N-tier, and total solution systems on Internet. The related courses
provided are:

| Network and System Administration |
|
As software development on the network environment
is increasingly important, there is a high demand for network and
system administrators to plan and to maintain IT networks and systems.
These administrators are required to have a wide range of knowledge
of all components of the system. The network and system administration
courses are provided to prepare a student to become a capable system
administrator with the basic operating system principles and the
fine-tuning of a specific operating system (OS) such as Unix and
Windows OS. The courses provided are:
- Computer Networks
- Computer System Administration
- Operating Systems

| Industrial Experience
- Project-placement Scheme |

One of the unique features of the programme is
a five-month internship scheme in which students can easily obtain
practical working experience and consolidate their specialized skills
and generic skills in the professional sectors under the close supervision
of the internal advisor and the external professionals in the relevant
field.
This internship scheme provides an opportunity for students to further
apply what they have learned from our College in a real, challenging
and demanding work place. After graduation, students should have
no difficulty in finding employment with computer manufacturers,
or work in software houses or information systems departments of
large organisations since they have already had hands-on expertise
for five months.
In order to foster and consolidate their experiences, a series of
professional seminars are provided every two weeks for students
and lecturers to share their invaluable experiences. Special guest
speakers from industry will be invited to provide the most up-to-date
knowledge and trends of current IT development. Special workshops
of internship related issues would also be provided to strengthen
students' confidence in the challenging workplace.
The professional ethics course is provided to promote the culture
of professionalism, team spirit and the sense of commitment to their
career and the society as a whole.
